The expert committees established by the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) support the fulfilment of its statutory mandate to prevent occupational accidents, accidents on the way to and from work, occupational diseases and work-related health hazards and ensure the delivery of effective first aid. Together they form the DGUV Prevention Competence Network. Each expert committee is generally led by a specific German social accident insurance institution.
The duties and status of each expert committee are described in DGUV Guideline 300-001 "expert committees and expert groups of DGUV".
The core task of all expert committees is to form uniform, substantiated expert opinions on prevention issues which are binding on all German social accident insurance institutions and ensure that the specialist interests of all German social accident insurance institutions are represented.
The expert committees and their subcommittees provide other German social accident insurance institutions, government departments, manufacturers and other interested parties with direct points of contact for prevention issues within their area of responsibility. They are staffed by labour inspectors and other prevention specialists from the German social accident insurance institutions, representatives of the DGUV and its member institutions, employers and employees, the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS), the federal states, manufacturers and operators as well as selected experts. They therefore network a range of thematically coordinated skills provided by established experts.
The relevant German social accident insurance institutions remain the first port of call for companies, insured individuals and operators of facilities and systems who require advice or support.
Websites for the expert committees are being set up parallel to the committee establishment process.
