Cotton undergarments as a tool for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons whole body dosimetry of firefighters

Firefighters are exposed to hazardous substances, including PAH during firefighting activities. This study assess the dermal exposure of firefighters to PAH using a whole-body dosimetry method. For this purpose the cotton undergarments were analyzed after firefighting.

Plasticizer exposure in Germany from 1988 to 2022

The study documents the exposure of people in Germany to plasticizers since 1988. The data demonstrate the necessity, but also the success of many regulatory measures, which have led to a decline in the exposure of the population. Nevertheless, exposure to toxicologically relevant phthalate mixtures continues to exist and requires continuous monitoring.

The Institute for Prevention and Occupational Medicine of the German Social Accident Insurance is an institute of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (IPA). IPA's research work aims at the reduction of health risks of employees due to various hazardous substances. The goal is to develop preventive measures as well as to improve diagnosis and therapy of occupational diseases and to support the German Social Accident Insurance.
