Regulations and links to further information on natural optical radiation

Two binders stacked on top of each other, one is yellow one is blue

As yet, no limit values have been defined for the assessment of natural optical radiation exposure. Methods for measurement of solar UV radiation and, in particular, evaluation of protective measures against it can be found in several relevant standards.

Standards:

  • EN 14255 series of standards: Measurement and assessment of personal exposures to incoherent optical radiation
  • EN 14255-3: UV-Radiation emitted by the sun
  • EN 13758-1: Textiles - Solar UV protective properties - Part 1: Method of test for apparel fabrics
  • EN 13758-2: Textiles - Solar UV protective properties - Part 2: Classification and marking of apparel
  • ISO 9060: Solar energy - Specification and classification of instruments for measuring hemispherical solar and direct solar radiation
  • EN 172: Personal eye-protections - Sunglare filters for industrial use
